Why do we need an updated plan?

We want future generations of Spalding County residents to continue to enjoy a high quality of life and updating the Comprehensive Plan can help ensure that. But it only works with your input. During our planning process, we want to hear from you! We want to know your thoughts, concerns, and aspirations for Spalding County.

All of your feedback will help guide the county’s future decision-making around things like land development and preservation, housing options, and more.

Comprehensive Plan Basics

Georgia requires communities to update their comprehensive plans every five years, including a reevaluation of needs and opportunities, preferred options for future land use and development as well as action steps to achieve community goals.

Community input opportunities will frame the planning process and facilitate the adoption of the plan and support of priority implementation items by Spalding County, Sunny Side, and Orchard Hill leadership.

What’s happened since the last plan update?

Since the last Comprehensive Plan update in 2017, Spalding County has taken on several significant planning projects, including the Spalding County Comprehensive Transportation Plan, Public Transportation Plan, Freight Cluster Study, Wastewater Management Plan, Recreation Master Plan, and others. The results of these plans, all aimed at specific infrastructure needs, will be incorporated into our overall planning where they will help inform and provide context for our updated Comprehensive Plan.

Contact The Planning Team

To ensure we produce the most developed, forward-thinking, and unbiased Comprehensive Plan, Spalding County has hired an outside consulting team, led by community development experts Blue Cypress Consulting in collaboration with leading planning firms ROSS+Associates and Hatley Plans. Together, we will work closely with county leaders, employees, community groups, and you to develop the plan update.
